Our Mission

Our mission: To visit all 55 piers around England and Wales in under 3 weeks......

Who, What, Why, Where and When

WHO?

Myself, Gavin Priestley, my partner Sam Bell and our 11yo son Dylan.

In our clapped out, 1999 reg. silver BMW (fingers crossed she's up to it!)

WHAT?

This Summer we're off on the adventure of a lifetime (well, for at least the last 12 months anyway!).

Starting off from our home town of Penarth we're aiming to drive anti-clockwise around the country to visit all 55 coastal piers in England and Wales. We're using the list from the Piers Society website as our official reference and we hope to complete the journey in 20 days.

I'll be updating this Blog daily to record our journey, the Piers we visit and anything we learn along the way.

WHY?

The simple answer is Why Not?

It's caused a bit of a stir with some family and friends who either think we're mad or just don't 'get it'.

So to try and explain it here's the longer answer: In 2014 we took a bit of a road trip from Penarth (South Wales) to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. Driving across the Midlands, up the East coast into Scotland, across to Glasgow and back down the West coast we took 10 days to complete our journey and visited many places we'd never been to before. And it was fantastic, incredible, totally amazing!

With no suitable sporting event to head to this Summer holidays we decided on a different type of road trip but we needed a goal or a purpose for our trip. We just weren't sure of what that goal could be.

That was until we saw a segment in a TV program that featured a couple who had kissed at the end of every UK pier. Awwwww. How sweet.

Now I know Dylan wouldn't be up for kissing at the end of every pier (although I know Sam is!) but he was very keen on the overall idea and when we replaced kissing for taking a 'selfie' it was a done deal. And the rest, as they say, was/will be history

WHERE?

The full list of 55 Piers and where we're visiting can be found in the post below (Schedule)
I've managed to bag some excellent room rates from Travelodge and Premier Inn and by alternating between both firms I've managed to plot a route that took advantage of the best deals and gets us to all 55 piers.

AND WHEN?

We start at 9am on Monday 20th July from Penarth Pier.

We’re hoping to raise a bit of money for the RNLI as we travel from pier to pier and I’ve set up a charitable page here http://www.everyclick.com/visit55piersin20days/info to accept donations.

If you feel you could spare a pound or two and sponsor us for this very worthwhile charity that would be really great and much appreciated.

Please bookmark this page to keep a track of our progress. It's going to be a fun ride.....
